The CFAP Sustainable Investing Thought Leadership Group provides a forum to advance the dialogue regarding the role of sustainable investing in today’s capital markets and beyond. On March 31st, our group hosting an event that featured Kern McPherson, Vice President for North American Research and Engagement at Glass Lewis, and Kayla Cooke, Lead Analyst for Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship Policy and Research team. The session provided a brief overview of proxy voting process, approach towards evaluating shareholder proposals, board composition and executive compensation practices.
Kayla told our audience about her team’s focus on social and governance issues, including board composition and diversity, equity and inclusion. She described to us how Vanguard Investment Stewardship votes proxies, engages with public companies, and advocates for strong corporate governance on behalf of Vanguard funds.
Kern told us about Glass Lewis’ research team covering corporate governance, executive compensation and environmental & social issues at over 6,500 companies traded in the U.S. and Canada. He then spoke of his specialty in issuer and stakeholder engagement, corporate governance analysis, research operations, and product development.
